WhichTool

Tool decision matrix built from 200+ personal app reviews. Helps you pick the right tool for the right job.

React · Vite · Vercel

I’ve been taking notes on different apps and tools in my Obsidian vault for five years. At this point I have over 200 notes dedicated to tools for thought. I’ve personally used and tested each one.

I always referenced these notes when deciding which tool to use for a specific scenario. But the friction of remembering which tool to use and when started to bug me. So I built a decision matrix from those 200+ notes to eliminate that friction.

After getting it into “good enough” shape, I realized it could be valuable for other people too. One requirement: it has to be completely free and available for all.

Check it out at whichtool.dev.

What It Does

Point it at a use case (note-taking, task management, writing, etc.) and it surfaces the best tools based on real testing data, not marketing pages. Each tool entry includes what it’s good at, what it’s not, and when you should actually use it.

Status

Shipped and live. Planning to add more tools, screenshots, and comparison features over time.
